As a teen I listened to a couple of your albums. I wish I could remember which one has a song about Louie and a sandwich cut half-in-two. Anyway, it probably isn't available. I have enjoyed your music and still catch myself singing Some Days Are Diamonds in my head. Thanks for sharing your talent.

followed this from another link. Dick, I lived in Bronaugh. My dad was Charlie Claflin. I have a lot of great memories from my home and my Dad. You signed a record album for me. The album was the one that you wrote about the people in Bronaugh on the back. I would be thrilled to purchase a signed copy of that album. I have a record player. The album you signed was lost. Actually, all my albums of yours are gone. My ex-wife will not let me have them. Have thought of you often and your background in Bronaugh. You may not remember me, 7 years your junior, but I was so proud of my family's connection with you. I am a big fan of your music. Hope to hear soon. Dick Claflin P.O. Box 8277 Springfield, Mo. 65801

I had a promo copy of "Makin' the Best of a Bad Situation" when I was a Deejay at a college radio station in southern West Virginia in 1974. Loved the song (my sister and I could sing it word-for-word) but never researched any more about Dick Feller. I bumped into a friend of Dick's at the Plains Bed & Breakfast in Plains, GA in July 2005 and Dick's name came up. Jill gave me your website address and I'm checking to find an original copy of "Making' the Best ..." on CD. Jill says you can be expecting a call from her soon!

Dick . . . I have been a fan since the early 70's. I used to work for a country radio station and fondly remember playing your stuff (sometimes contrary to the music director's orders). My all time favorite is still "Daisy Hill". Is your old label ever going to get their head out of their backside and release your stuff on CD? My poor old LP's have seen better days. (I've been hoping the "Bear Family" label would do a box of all your stuff.) Thanks for your great tunes. Bobbo

I've been a fan of Dick's since the early 70's. I own only three of Dick's recordings "Dick Feller Wrote", "No Word On Me" and "Centaur Of Attention". I would love to get my hands on more of his releases, but most recording shops I visit have never heard of him. Is there a place where I could purchase his sheet music for Biff or anything on the Feller Wrote album? Thanks for the music and years of enjoyment Vern

I have long loved Dick Feller's songs and had several LPs which got narfed up in a divorce. I should have hired Melvin Belli and fought for them. Now, I know not where to find Dick Feller Music. If you would answer this and l;et me know, I would appreciate it. I used to sing "Sum of Marcy's Blues" and wonder why the man has never done a fingerstyle album. If you send his itinerary out by email, please put me on the list to receive it. ~Dalton Roberts

Great to finally find a Dick Feller website! I first saw Feller at the boarding house in San Francisco in the 70's. He was opening for Jimmy Buffet I think. I can sing more of his songs then I would like to admit and I too worry that some day I will be in a large city when everyone breaks in to song and I won't not the words. Glad to see there is a CD out too. I will be buying one soon. I converted most of my old albums to digital so I can listen to them on my iPod but the albums were worn and the quality is not great. Love to see a CD of the Dick's non-humor songs too. I am particularly fond of the train songs. Enough.

Ah, There is a purpose to the internet... 30 years ago (or so) I was lucky enough to catch "Orphan of the Road" on my cassette recorder while listening to KPFK in Los Angeles. The announcer wasn't clear when he spoke the name of the performer so I was never able to track down a copy of the song. I've played my version of it around a lot of front rooms & campfires over the years and it is one of the most beautiful & wonderfully crafted songs that I've ever heard. Are there any recordings by Mr. Feller available? I would love to repay him for writing this great song by, at least, supporting him and finally buying the record (CD). Thanks again, Tom.

Always wondered why I did not hear it anymore and everytime I mentioned it to people, they would just laugh at me and say I must have dreamed it up. Even D.J.'s never heard of it. Now I can show all 5 of my boys these words and I get the last laugh!!!! I still get teary eyed reading it after raising my sons alone. BEAUTIFUL WORDS. You write like I think.. Thank you so very much, you are special and I wish you well. Later, Ann Beck

Remembering Bob Shane introducing me to your fine writing years ago. Remembering a jam session long ago, stateside, in the seventies with you.I recall how encouraging you were to all of us ( some of us in the infancy of our writing days ) who were sharing our songs. Especially remembering 'Diamonds', its quick birth, and also its exceptional beauty and the profound healing effect it has had on people throughout the years. Heard a wonderful performer and her band sing it this afternoon. Great songs are indeed timeless. Thank you, Dick, once again for that special time so long ago , for your special gifts, and how well you have used them. God Bless, Rick

I have written several humorous "Talk songs" along with my more serious stuff. Since I consider you along with Tom T. Since the 70's I have been touched by the beauty of Dick Feller's gift in rhyme and reason. He is a master of photographing a frame of life and developing it into words and music. I never grow tired of listening to his presentations for they are much more than just recordings. Even without words, I find myself captured by the emotion of his music. The sad fact is that nobody has featured him to the masses in the manner that befits his tallent. Nevertheless, God has blessed us with an artist that has made our lives a bit more happy and fulfilled. I am truly grateful for having been exposed to the pictures of life artistically developed by one Dick Feller. Doug Haney Teacher

I have also put Dick's first three albums ("Wrote", "No Word", and "Diamonds", and they all came out very well) on cd-r from the original vinyl to trade ONLY FOR THESE ITEMS! Feel free to drop me a line if you'd like to do some horse tradin'! Thanks in advance!

Hi Dick Many years ago , I had all your albums on vinyl . Unfortunately I don't have them now . I wrote to you in the States , telling you how much I enjoyed them . To my surprise , I actually got a handwritten reply . Any chance of you coming over the pond to do some concerts? My offer of accommodation still stands !! Just what is available on CD of yours now ? I have just ordered "Centaur" from CDbaby Cheers Andy

Hello Dick, I know you don't know me. My first wife worked with your Mother in Nevada. Your Mother loaned your first album to my wife and I to listen to. The songs "Biff the Friendly Purple Bear" and "Jerico Springs" have especially been memorable. I have been married to my fourth wife now for 4 years, (this one will last) I have told her about some of your songs and of course she has never even heard "Lord Mr.Ford" let alone "Jerico Springs". I was wondering, if I could still get a copy of your 1st Album. If you have any information as to where I could get a copy, please let me know. I think it was a great album. I should have gotten a copy way back when, but of course I didn't. Thanks Tom

Dick, It has been too long, my brother! I hope you are doing well! I look back fondly on that weekend in 1979 when you appeared up here in the DC area, the Bethesda Marriott to be exact. The late Dave Allen was your opening act at the gig, and you put on an amazing show, with little appreciation from the barfly audience. (I opened for the late Gamble Rogers the following weekend, and that was the end of that series.) I remember the joke you told at brunch on Sunday morning before you flew back to Nashville. The story was about a couple of duck hunters who weren't having any luck at all, and one of them surmised the problem was they weren't throwing the dog high enough! Got your "Centaur" disc sometime ago, and it's terrific, but would really like to get my hands on the rest of what came out, as well as the material between your last Asylum release and "Centaur". I guess you know by now that Tom Rush has recorded "Making The Best Of A Bad Situation" on his self-produced "Trolling For Owls" disc. Different arrangement from yours, but very effective, and still very funny. Drop me a line when you get a chance. Would love to see you up here in the DC area one of these days. Take care of yourself! Len

Dick, It is I, once again. When I took guitar lessons from you back in the dark ages, you told me there were three elements every song needed to be a hit: leavin', the wind, and something else. Can't remember. Do you? Also, I looked at the list of songs you wrote. What happened to "Proximity Past"? You know, the one Chuck made you change to "Purple Flower of Love." I used to sing it when I was performing in California. I'd give anything to have the lyrics and the chords. Also, remember "Buffalo Nickel," that one of the boys in The Gass Company wrote and we went to Monument Records with Chuck to watch them record their demo. Somebody recorded it later, but I can't remember who? Do you remember? I downloaded "The Credit Card Song," and I love it. I'm glad I knew you way back when, Millie

I knew Dick Feller when I was growing up. Bronaugh, Missouri was just a few miles from Liberal, Missouri where I lived. He also lived in Liberal with him mom for a while. He was my first Boy Friend. We used to talk on the phone every afternoon. I haven't seen him for over 35 years. One of his friends is married to my cousin Bobby Stevens. I would just like to say Hi!

Hi Dick, I was at the "Celebration for the End of the War" concert, otherwise known as "The War is Over II". A male friend of mine tried to get on the bill at the last minute, but was told by Phil Ochs, who concieved the event, that there were ore perforers booked than they had imagined. Many of the performers that afternoon seemed somewhat ill prepared, they didn't seem like they were performing at their best. Nevertheless, they performed with a great amount of spirit, if nothing else. When you were introduced your name meant little to me. Your opening remarks ( and I do still remember them) blew me away. You seemed so honest, so unassuming. When you started to play, however, I realized that we were being honored by the presence of genius. The next day I went to J&R and bought a copy of "Dick Feller Wrote". Subsequently, I bought the two Asylum albums when they made their appearance. Your ability as a storyteller influenced my own songwriting, though I doubt I ever mastered the form to the extent that you have. I can't think of any other writers who can tell a story or set as scene as effectively as you can. Some come close, but you still come out far ahead. I should apologize for the profuse remarks as I am quite sure you are scratching your head and wondering about their sincerity. I assure you that every word reflects my actual and heartfelt opinion. In fact, it pleases me greatly to be able to tell you after so many years just how much your music has meant to me. Just as it has touched so any others over the years. I bought Dick Feller wrote... in the seventies. Credit card song was one of my big favorites. Since then my wife forced me to carry all my vinyl albums to basement and I´ve been unable to listen the song since. Somehow it stuck in my memory I decided to find out if Dick Feller had albums available on CD. It was great to find this site and it was a suprise to me to find out that "Some days are diamonds" was a Dick Feller song too. It was a small hit here in Finland by a local band and I own the Finnish version but never noticed the writer before.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dick back in the mid 70's when he poured rum and cokes for the few of us that stayed around for the second show at the old Boarding House (the openning act must have driven the house away). Anyway, it was quite a treat to get a personal, table-side show. But like everybody else on this list, I've worn out the vinyl (promotional copies from the Boarding House gig) and the cassette copies! Out here on the left coast the Dick Feller bin in the record stores is often found lacking. It's the new millenium...Dick's gotta be on CD by now! Still a Fan. -Burl

I received "Dick Feller Wrote..." as a gift from my older brother when I turned sixteen, about (cough, cough) years ago. It inspired me to learn Travis-style guitar just so I could play the accompaniment to "The Credit Card Song" and "Lord, Mr. Ford." I laughed out loud when I read the liner notes--something about being afraid to move to the big city after watching all those old movie musicals, for fear that everyone would burst into song and he wouldn't know the words. I see I just missed a performance in Nashville...hope like anything that Dick Feller will get within driving distance again soon. Thanks for the music...what would life be without a soundtrack?

Dick Feller is one of the few musicians that sound more "country" than the "protest folk" singers, and more "folk" than the "country" singers. The two mixed together sound better than either one alone. Keep up the Nashville-Greenwich Village connection. This is such a rare connection in music.

Hi Dick! I heard a few of your songs on Polish radio SEVERAL YEARS ago and was really impressed by your clever humour as well as your ability to touch hearts ! All I have left now are these few radio recordings on a worn-out casette - they sound quite faded after all these years ... But all this time your songs -so different from the "standard" country stuff -have stayed in my memory and -when shopping abroad for records -I have been trying to find some information about who in fact this mysterious Feller is ! Not a clue : no records in music stores and the name didn´t ring a bell to young shop assistants... And today : bingo! By chance I have found your website and am impressed to find so many information and also the full lyrics of some songs - I had tried to figure them out myself when listening but never fully succeeded because English is not my mother language . I am also surprised to see that you are the author of so many great songs I knew before only from performance of my favourite singer Johny Cash ! I hope I will manage to buy the "Centaur of Attention" soon . Thanks a lot for everything and good luck!!! Marzena

That was the night I was there with three women and you thought there was another show in the same room. I told my wife "he plays Sum of Marcie's Blues as well as the guy on the radio." The local radio station was unusual in that it did not play mainstream country, but played the good stuff. I have played your music for many people who otherwise would have missed it. I have tried to get you booked at the Chattanooga Nightfall festival. Play it if you get the chance.

I was very young when you returned to you hometown for a concert in the school gym. My father, Galen Gazaway, presented you with a gift. I still have a picture of that event. I also play gutiar, upright bass, and fiddle. In my free time I give private lessons for gutair. I enjoy your music and also enjoy bluegrass, particularly Tony Rice. Have you ever played with him at anytime during your career? Thanks, Jim Gazaway

I did a search on some bits of music that have been running through my mind for ages which turned out to be from 'Uncle Hyrum & the Homemade Beer'. This naturally led me to Dick Feller, then to this site, and to your link to CDBaby. Now I can once again enjoy Dick's music with my ears instead of my faulty memory. Thanks for filling in the gaps and giving a name to this wonderful artist formerly known as "that Uncle Hyrum guy".

Thank you so much for this web page, I thought I had lost that beautiful song about Biff forever. A few years back my mother made me a beautiful purple bear, I named her Mrs. Biff. Now I will be able to share that beautiful childrens song again with my family. Best of luck to you and thank you for sharing with us.

Hello Dick Fellar, I don't know how in the world that I have heard Gene Strasser speak of you down through the years, wihtout my making the connection between your name and the great songs I have utterly loved for years, until today when he told me to check your album out on CD Baby. I'm going to plug the album for you in our online magazine this month, and naturally, I'll order it as soon as my wife gets home with my credit card. Man it's great to see songs like "Making The Best of A Bad Situation" marketed online. Best of luck on the promotion of a great work. I'll follow up with a CD Baby Review...Dave Talley

I took guitar lessons with Dick in a room behind Waylon Jennings' music store. Haven't heard anything from him since 1968. I didn't follow his career and now here he is a legend. He wrote and taught me a song that he called "Proximity Past." Chuck Glaser, his then-manager, changed the title to "Purple Flower of Love." That was so-o-o Chuck Glaser. I'd love to get in touch with him. Do you have his e-mail address?

Dear Dick, or whoever answers this email: For heaven's sakes convince somebody to release these beautiful old albums on CD, especially "Dick Feller Wrote...". I got rid of my record player and have had "Nobody Rides a Train" and "Daisy Hill" swimming in memory ever since. I hope to actually hear them again someday when somebody has the good sense to convert them to digital. Thanks!

Just in case anyone else gets in touch with me regarding those 'recordings' we made in Nashville during the 80's, I am not talking about records, discs, vinyl or CD's in this case, I am talking about radio recordings - interviews - which were broadcast on the BBC in 1980. Thanks!

Greetings from Australia: Thanks for a great and informative web-site dedicated to one of the great story-tellers-in-song! I'll keep in touch and do what I can to add information to your collection about the Australian versions of Dick's songs. I see Paul McCloud "dropped in" recently; Paul has actually recorded four of Dick's songs - the most recent was ORPHAN OF THE ROAD - I know this well because it was my wife who cajoled him into recording it! Anyway, keep up the good work. And thanks for bringing knowledge and information about Dick Feller to those who know and love his work - and to those who still haven't "had the pleasure". Regards to all.

I must tell you, Dick, it's been a number of years! You came up to the DC area back in the fall of 1979 to play at the Bethesda, MD Marriott Hotel for the first of what turned out to be a two-weekend acoustic music series there. You had the late Dave Allen as your opening act, and I was the opening act the following weekend for the late Gamble Rogers. I remember a bunch of us had brunch the next morning at the hotel, where you told a story about two duck hunters who couldn't understand why they hadn't been more successful, when one of them concluded that they weren't throwing the dog high enough! I caught up with you in Nashville in the summer of '82 at the Union Hall for just a moment when I was down there visiting Stewart Harris during Fan Fair Week, and then we just lost contact. I have been back and forth to Nashville several times since, but no one knew where to find you. I am looking forward to getting copies of the Audiograph Alive album if it is still in print as well as the new one, "Centaur of Attention". How do I do this? And are you still performing at all, or are you just recording? Please drop me an e-mail, or give me a call at 202-841-7664. Look forward to hearing from you! Len Jaffe

Dear Dick, I don't know if you personally check out this mail page or not, but I hope so. I met you at the Indianapolis Songwriters' Workshop last month (Jan 01). I was there for the workshop and for the show you and Jimmy did the second night. I am new to song writing and new to guitar playing and both seem a bit overwhelming from time to time. I am commited to hang in there and explore whatever talent I may have for song writing. You and Jimmy are an inspiration to me which I draw upon to keep me going. I have listned to your CD which I bought that night and have listened to several times since then and thoroughly enjoy it. Surely "I just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" is going to get picked up and published before long. I love the humor and hope it turns out to be a hit for you before long. With a little bit of luck and hopefully some ability, I'll have the chance to meet you again some day. May you keep on finding "Days of Diamonds." Don Jordan

You may leave some words about Dick Feller and/or his music ...My Dad had his record Dick Feller Wrote when I was little and I loved it. I played it all the time. I especially loved Biff the Purple Bear, Jericho Springs, and the Credit card song. It burned in a fire, and I neve could find any of his music. It brings back lots of happy memories for me.

You may leave some words about Dick Feller and/or his music ...I appreciate this page. I am only familliar with his songwriting not his singing although now you have me intrigued. My favorite song of Dick's is "Jocko" sung wonderfully by the Kingston Trio(specifically George Grove). Is there any way to reach Mr. Feller via internet or email?
